The Effect of Filter Media Size and Loading Rate to Filter Performance of Removing Microplastics using Rapid Sand Filter

Microplastics (MP) can pose a serious threat to the environment and human health because of their tiny size ability spread easily in water. One alternative treatments remove MP from water is rapid sand filter (RSF). The objective this study was analyze effects media loading rate on RSF performance removing MP. applied silica with effective sizes (ES) 0.39 0.68 mm. rates filtration were 4; 6; 8 10 m3/m2-h. samples made plastic bags torn tires (artificial samples: 800 µm). This showed that removal percentage up 96.6% (MP larger than 200 head loss increment for 8; m3/m2-h 0.16; 0.35; 0.34; 0.25 m (ES m) 0.10; 0.18; 0.19 m)), respectively.
